Stephen Hill - La Herradura, Spain

  • Year:

    2009 - no. 152

  • Body:

South American rosewood - beautiful figuring. Simple boxwood purflings.

  • Front:

European spruce - a really good top with even grain and lots of medullary rays showing it to be well-quarter-sawn. Attractive geometric rosette with matching purflings and rosewood bridge.

  • Tuners:

Nicolo Alessi with Hauser-shaped sideplates and snakewood buttons.

  • Scale:

64 cm - helpful for smaller hands

  • Neck Width:

50 mm at the nut - again, helpful for smaller hands

  • Weight:

    1532 grams

  • Condition:

    All shellac french-polished.
In original condition - we find no scratches or marks - so just in case there is something tiny we have not found - we'll say 99% as new.

  • Comments:

This is a small-bodied, shorter scale guitar in the style of the 'Romantica' model produced by Ramirez in Madrid. Small-bodied guitars can be very satisfying to play as the sounds seems to come out of the box so quickly giving a sense of immediacy. The body size and shorter scale would obviously help the smaller player and / or someone with small hands.
An unusual, smaller size guitar with clear, bright sound in immaculate condition.
