Stephen Hill - La Herradura, Spain

  • Year:

    2007 - no. 138

  • Body:

South American rosewood - that black, old stuff that is so hard to find now - with nicely-contrasting purflings.

  • Front:

European spruce - a really good, fine-grained and silky top with lots of medullary rays carrying an attractive rosette, Madagascan rosewood bridge with framed decoration to the tie-block.

  • Tuners:

Nicolo Alessi with Hauser-shaped sideplates and snakewood buttons.

  • Scale:

    65cm. 19 frets.

  • Neck Width:

    53 mm at the nut

  • Weight:

    1615 grams

  • Condition:

    All shellac french-polished.
The guitar is in lovely, barely-played, bright & shiny original, condition.
The back of the neck has very light, shallow nail marks. Apart from a tiny mark here and there, the rest is as new.

  • Comments:

A handsome concert guitar, from a popular Englishman maker, with clarity, projection and pleasing balance. The air resonance is around G giving the guitar a warm depth of bass. (More to be said of the sound quality after a string change)
For a guitar of a good and respected maker, in near-new condition, the price is set to be attractive.
