Stephen Hill - La Herradura, Spain

  • Year:

    2007 - no. 143. Manuel Reyes copy.

  • Body:

Spanish cypress - with straight-grained sides and a back with unusally strong and almost luminous grain lines. Back centre strip and matching purflings in snakewood.

  • Front:

European spruce - another close-grained, silky top with attractive rosette, nearly black rosewood bridge with bone framing to the tie-block. Clear tap-plate / golpeador.

  • Tuners:

Nicolo Alessi with Hauser-shaped sideplates and snakewood buttons.

  • Scale:

    655mm. 19 frets

  • Neck Width:

    53 mm at the nut

  • Weight:

    1439 grams

  • Condition:

All shellac french-polished. In virtually unplayed original condition. Just some really tiny marks here and there. The golpeador shows no sign of having been touched by nails.

  • Comments:

From a collection of Stephen Hill guitars, this is a specially-commissioned guitar closely in the style of Manuel Reyes .... note the head shape for example.
It has a strong, crisp, clear sound - yet needs comments of a good flamenco player to say more - which we will try and have soon.
Certainly a fine and handsome flamenco guitar that has hardly been played hence in lovely condition
