2006 - no. 128. Based on Juan Martin's 1972 David Rubio flamenco guitar.
Rio rosewood of some quality - mainly quarter-sawn with strong, close grainlines and beautiful colouring.
European spruce - a superb quality top with stacks of medullary rays showing it to be well-quarter-sawn. With Stephen's regular rosette, a dark and elegant rosewood bridge with mother-of-pearl framing to the tie-block.
Ebony pegs on a David Rubio shaped head.
66cm
53 mm at the nut
1514 grams
All shellac french-polished.
In hardly-played condition - you have to look hard to find a few tiny marks on the front; some very shallow, small nail marks on the back of the neck. The beautiful back and sides are as new.
Another from a collection of specially-commissioned Stephen Hill guitars, this flamenco negra is a good copy of a 1972 David Rubio owned by Juan Martin. It turns out to be a very fine and potent guitar - with an immediately impressive, open strong sound.
