European spruce - a characterful top with just a little bearclaw and a lot of medullary figuring and an ambered colour. The fine-detailed rosette is lovely and has matching decoration to the tie-block capping of the slender rosewood bridge. Shellac french-polished.
Reischl - Lansdorfer style with patterned side-plates and synthetic pearl buttons mounted on a rosewood-faced head.
65cm with 19 frets on an ebony fingerboard.
51mm at the nut with 42.5mm string spacing.
1457 grams.
On arrival here, the guitar had a lot of small marks over most surfaces, spoiling its appearance. It has just been re-polished with shellac from head to toe. Apart from one dark mark on the bottom of the front, it now looks very close to new.
Simon Ambridge guitars; even the earlier ones, display high class and a sense of good style. The decoration such as the rosette is fine-detailed and very tasteful.
With an air resonance around G, the guitar has a warm sound with pleasing depth of bass and a clear, refined treble. It is well-balanced and very comfortable to play.
A lovely traditional guitar looking near-new.Simon Ambridge - Click here to find out more about this maker
