Straight-grained Brazilian rosewood with simple, probably maple purfling.

Shellac french-polished.
European spruce - a book-matched, silky top with even grain spacing across the board and some bearclaw figuring. It carries the most beautiful of Santos' rosettes with a double helix motif in green and orange colours. Dark rosewood bridge with a tie-block capped with white mother-of-pearl framing and a centre-piece of perhaps abalone.. All presenting a truly gorgeous appearance.
Original Baker type machines with hand-engraved side-plates and pearl buttons - all in excellent working condition.

This guitar is in exceptionally good condition.
Let's assume it has had some re-polishing - but nevertheless has very little playing marks. There are insignificant tight cracks to the sides of the fingerboard and a small one down at the bottom of the front.
For it nearly 95 years of age, it is is remarkable condition and in fully playable performance condition and set-up.
Santos Hernandez is surely one of the truly great makers from Madrid in the early 20th century. The materials and workmanship of of very high quality. The sound is deep and majestic. The air resonance is down just below F producing a deep, resonant sound along with a sweet, clear treble - all typical of the early 20th C sound-world of Manuel Ramirez, Santos, Enrique Garcia etc.
