Roland Scharbatke from Iserlohn - Germany

  • Year:

    2008

  • Body:

Rosewood - particularly beautiful. All french polished.

  • Front:

European spruce - well quarter-sawn and with much medullary ray showing.

  • Tuners:

David Rodgers with plain brass sideplates, black rollers and ebony buttons

  • Scale:

    65cm

  • Neck Width:

    52mm at the nut

  • Condition:

Having been played by a busy professional recitalist, it has a few little marks on the back of the neck, an area on the back where the polish is dulled from body contact and some quite minor playing marks on the front. Having said all that, it is in very good and attractive condition.
The neck-to-head joint has been re-made by the maker following partial damage to the instrument during a transportation incident. This is an invisible repair; is as strong as originally constructed and should have negligible effect on value.

  • Comments:

Roland Scharbatke makes a modest number of instruments each year with premium quality materials and great attention to detail. They have been played by professionals such as Johannes Moller, Dale Kavanagh and Chris Stell of Eden-Stell duo, who owns this one. With a body resonance down at F, this has a deep and rich bass; not unlike Hauser-style guitars. The treble is clear, projects very well and is a comfortable guitar to play. Originally costing around GBP8000, this is offered at a price to sell. Try the mp3 sound sample.
