Miguel Rodriguez of Cordoba

  • Year:

1986. Labelled, dated and signed by the maker. With one ink stamp 'Miguel Rodriguez Serrano' underneath the front and impression stamp on the internal heel block and back of the head joint.

  • Body:

Beautiful Honduran rosewood - very dark and mainly straight-grained; particularly the sides; wood of a quality rarely seen today. Double line, maple purflings frame the back and sides very effectively.

  • Front:

European spruce - very tight-grained and silky in the centre, with the famed floral rosette, rosewood bridge with bone-framed tie-block decoration

  • Tuners:

Fustero with lyre pattern, engraved brass sideplates and synthetic, white pearl buttons

  • Scale:

65cm with 19 frets on an ebony fingerboard

  • Neck Width:

53 mm at the nut - but with 42.5mm string spacing as you would find on many 52mm wide nuts.

  • Weight:

    1555 grams

  • Condition:

In very good, original and attractive condition. The back, sides, neck and head are virtually as new.
The front has some playing wear; a few end-of-nail marks and other little marks; nothing very noticeable.
I find one tight, 3cm shake/crack in one of the sides (treble side, bottom bout) which is insignificant and typical of this rosewood. There is also a superficial crackline in near the bass edge of the fingerboard - seemingly only in the polish and possibly wood surface but not through the wood.

  • Comments:

The guitars of Miguel Rodriguez are well-famed and have been used extensively by the Romero family and followers. With undoubted strength of sound and sophisticated Spanish character, they are impressive concert guitars. Like the famous 'Churchdoor' series from the 1970's, this instrument was made by Miguel jnr. and demonstrates fine quality of build, distinctive design and decoration combined with enormous strength of sound.
