Marcelino Lopez Nieto of Madrid

  • Year:

1963 - labelled and signed by the maker

  • Body:

    Mahogony

  • Front:

Cedar - 5 fan-strut with bridge plate and closing bars.

  • Tuners:

    Unidentified make - presumably Spanish.

  • Scale:

    65cm

  • Neck Width:

    50mm at the nut

  • Condition:

Although the wood colour has faded, the guitar is in remarkable and apparently original condition. Fingerboard re-faced and refretted by Rohan Lowe. The front centre seam joint shows some separation which has been glued and may need no further attention. The back and sides have very few marks - there is one 8-9cm side crack alongside the bindings to the back - again no repair required.

  • Comments:

Probably a more economical model at the time compared with the rosewood guitars, this still has a high quality, open sound with warmth, depth and good strength. It is very pleasing and enjoyable to play with sensible action and excellent accuracy of intonation. A low price opportunity.
