Manuel Reyes of Plaza del Potro 2, Cordoba.

  • Year:

1967. Labelled, dated, stamped and signed by the maker.

  • Body:

Spanish cypress with very straight grain on both back and sides - and beautiful colour. The purfling and bindings are simple and elegant.
    Body length:- 487 mm.
Top bout:- 283 mm wide & 93 mm deep.
    Waist:- 243 mm & 95 mm deep
Bottom bout:- 372 mm wide & 94 mm deep.
    All shellac french polished.

  • Front:

European spruce with silky medullary rays, carrying a very attractive design of rosette. Rosewood bridge with tie-block bone-framed decoration. With original golpeador that is perfectly in tact; some limited sign of lifting at the bridge edge.

  • Tuners:

Fustero lyre pattern with engraved brass side-plates and perloid buttons mounted on a rosewood-faced head. Note - those on the right-hand side are originals with oval, opaque buttons. Those on the left-hand side are later replacements with square perloid buttons.

  • Scale:

657 mm with 19 frets on an ebony fingerboard

  • Neck Width:

51mm at the nut with 42.5 mm string spacing.

  • Weight:

    1365 grams

  • Condition:

The guitar is in very good, well-cared-for condition; particularly for its more than 50 years of age.
The back and sides look like a 1-year old guitar! - although there is a single 8cm crack in the centre the treble-side bottom.
The front has normal playing wear. The golpeador is the original and shows minimal lifting at the edge.
The back of the neck is good with just some marks from cejilla / capo strap. The end of the back of the head has a rash of marks and a little chip - all from repeated placing the guitar on a stand or hanger. (We may tidy that up)
All the polish is original throughout.

  • Comments:

These flamenco guitars of Manuel Reyes are legendary of course. Many knowledgeable players have their preferences for Reyes guitars of different periods and those of this time are favoured by many.
This is without doubt an excellent Reyes blanca. It has a crisp, sparkling treble with a really lyrical quality like many Barberos, but not too much sustain. The bass and middle are also well focussed; able to produce an outstanding rasgueado sound.
This is a fine and handsome Manuel Reyes flamenco, in lovely original condition, suitable for professional players and aficionados alike.
