1967 - number 426.
Rosewood. Quarter-sawn, dense and stable.
European spruce with silky medullary figuring and an amber colouring through age. Featuring the well-admired Fleta rosette and bridge tie-block detail. 9 fan-strut design. Body air resonance - G
Fustero originals - in good working order.
65cm. Very good intonation.
52mm at the nut - which is much more comfortable for most people than the more common 53.5 / 54mm wide necks on many Fletas.
It is in good-looking condition for a 40 year-old instrument. The back and sides appear to have the original finish and are free from cracks or any other problems. The back has numerous surface marks and scratches but nothing unsightly. The sides are in really very good condition. The back of the neck, apart from just one knock, is like new so has presumably been repolished. The front has a well-done repair on the wing of the lower bout, bass-side and has been repolished hence looks very fresh and tidy. Overall it is in very good and attractive condition
This example of the legendary Ignacio Fleta, is relatively rare for its combination of Brazilian rosewood and spruce. He mainly focussed on Indian rosewood with cedar fronts later in his career though both Andres Segovia and John Williams, amongst many other famed players, played the spruce Fletas too. This is a fine performance instrument, more comfortable than many which can have heavy, wide necks. It has noticeably good balance, superbly focussed and refined sounds, good sustain, is full of life and gives the player confidence in its projection. A rare opportunity to acquire a really fine guitar from a truly great master maker
