Ignacio Fleta e hijos of Barcelona.

  • Year:

    1996 - number 985 - made by Gabriel Fleta.

  • Body:

East Indian rosewood - much the favoured timber for back and sides of the makers. Good quarter-sawn, straight-grained rosewood with double-line purfling and rosewood bindings.
The back and sides are lacquer / varnish finished.

  • Front:

Canadian cedar - very close-grained. With the famed rosette of this family of makers and with dark rosewood bridge and usual tie-block cap decoration. The front is shellac french-polished.

  • Tuners:

The higher quality Fustero tuning machines with engraved brass side-plates and ivoroid buttons.

  • Scale:

65cm with 19 frets on an ebony fingerboard.

  • Neck Width:

    53mm with 42.5mm string spacing

  • Weight:

    1850 grams

  • Condition:

This instrument is in original condition, without repairs or cracks. The varnish finish has well preserved the back, sides, neck and head. The bass side of the front and below the bridge has just just a few small marks. The area outside of the 1st string has playing wear and scratches - though as the front photo shows, it is not very obvious but does show when light falls on it. Frets and fingerboard are in good condition.

  • Comments:

This Fleta e hijos guitar, made by Gabriel Fleta in 1996, is typical of those of the 1980's and 1990's. Heavier than those of the early 1970's, 1960's and 1950's, they have a firm, colourful, strong mid-range characteristic sound with good sustain combined with good volume.
Waiting time for these guitars new, is a very long time and so it is pleasing to be able to offer this one, which for a guitar of 18 years with neither repairs nor cracks, is in very good condition.
