Gerhard Oldiges of Marburg, Germany

  • Year:

    2008

  • Body:

Very beautiful Indian rosewood. The grain patterns on the back are unusually attractive and have appearance like some Madagascan or Honduran rosewood figuring. The sides are excellent, straight-grained Indian.

  • Front:

European spruce with some bearclaw / haselfichte. The colour has already darkened a little and is developing a good amber tone.

  • Tuners:

Waverly Sloanes with brass sideplates and white buttons

  • Scale:

    65cm

  • Neck Width:

    51.5 mm

  • Condition:

Very close to new with just some little nail marks, mainly on the back of the neck - which are not deep. A front scratch protector has been in place avoiding marks in the main playing area. There are just a few little marks in isolated places.

  • Comments:

Julian Bream chose this guitar from a batch of three Oldiges-hauser guitars. He likes to completely rest the 1940 Hauser and this Oldiges guitar offered such a similar feel and very encouraging, Hauser-style sound. The 1940 Hauser has an E-flat air resonance, which is unusually deep. He decided to re-sell this particular Oldiges with the idea of having such a guitar also with air resonance below E.

"I would love to go through the process of buying a good guitar from Miles at KGCL because he really knows his stuff. But actually, I make them and so enjoy seeing my guitars amongst such a very fine selection of extremely good instruments. I feel very honoured that they are presented at Kent Guitar Classics."
