Dominique Delarue of Azur, France

  • Year:

    2014 - number 372

  • Body:

Malaysian blackwood - premium quality, with very attractive grain lines, colour variety, subtle flame in the upper back and attractive back centre-strip. This is a tonewood that performs very similar to Indian or other rosewoods. As beautiful as many sets of Brazilian, it has the advantage of not being an endangered wood species.
All shellac french-polished to very high standard.

  • Front:

Cedar - highest quality, pale in colour, close-grained and well-seasoned. Rosewood bridge with tie-block decoration matching the rosette. All shellac french-polished.

  • Tuners:

Nicolo Alessi with Hauser-shaped sideplates and snakewood buttons.

  • Scale:

65cm with 19 frets on an ebony fingerboard

  • Neck Width:

52mm at the nut with 43 mm string spacing.

  • Weight:

    1870 grams

  • Condition:

    New and immaculately polished.

  • Comments:

These outstanding and very refined cedar guitars have an established and deserved reputation. Responsive and loud but with a more traditional guitar sound than lattice guitars. Clear, rich and focussed basses with a clear ringing treble. One of the few guitars that seems to do everything very well and suitable for a wide range of repertoire. Having moved home and workshop recently, there is quite a wait for Delarue new guitars.
