Fine rosewood or swartzia with double purflings on both back and sides. The heel-cap is shaped as Francisco Simplicio guitars, which David Rubio much admired.
Swiss alpine spruce with bearclaw; very typical of what David Rubio particularly favoured. Rosewood bridge, double purflings and 'vine leaves' rosette designed by his wife, Nester
David Rodgers with finely-engraved brass sideplates and kidney buttons. All original.

The back of the neck has been repolished by Paul Fischer. Everything else is the original finish. The back and sides are in very good condition - with some occasional marks. The sides are slightly faded and there is one patch, where some people rest their chin, where the polish is gone and the rosewood discoloured.
The front has many little nail marks and surface scratches from some years of everyday, professional use.
This is a fine David Rubio guitar with strength, depth and a very refined, majestic sound palette. Mark Ashford, the well-known British recitalist, has used this guitar extensively for concerts, radio broadcasts and CD recordings over many years. The treble sound has a particularly fine quality. Despite surface playing marks in the front, this is a fine concert guitar and in near-original condition.
