Antonio Marin Montero of Granada

  • Year:

    2013 - number 1215

  • Body:

Back and sides of Swartzia Cubensis - a non-endangered, wood from Brazil that can be mistaken in its appearance for rosewood. With common name Katalox, this is a strong tonewood with similar hardness to Brazilian rosewood but a little heavier. Maestro Antonio is very impressed with its stability, workability and appearance and seeks more.
The sides are very dark and quarter-sawn. The centre section of the back is also on the quarter with very beautiful patterns further away from the centre. The body is very dark and dramatic with strongly contrasting maple purflings.
    All shellac french-polished.

  • Front:

European Spruce - using some of his best, fine-grained, fully quarter-sawn spruce with much medullary / espejuelo figuring. Well-recognised rosette and rosewood bridge with decorative details

  • Tuners:

Rubner with ebony buttons on an ebony-faced head. Rodgers tuners on request - with price extra.

  • Scale:

65cm with 19 frets on an ebony fingerboard.

  • Neck Width:

52mm at the nut with 43 mm string spacing.

  • Weight:

    1770 grams

  • Condition:

New and very beautiful. All shellac french-polished.
The detail photos illustrate the beauty of the timbers.

  • Comments:

Although with different timber for the back & sides, the sound is typical Marin Montero; very open, strong, crisp and clear with depth, balance and richness. We obtain excellent Antonio Marins and in this case we sourced the swartzia cubensis and have more for future repeats. The quantity of guitars we source from this workshop is such that we are offered the best woods and finish quality.
This is the first Marin Montero with this timber but is not going to be the last for sure.
Typical feel and sound of a Marin Montero with very beautiful, different body timbers.
