GERUNDINO Fernandez of Almeria

  • Year:

1987. Label signed and dated. Stamped on the inside back and on the heel slipper.

  • Body:

Spanish cypress with good straight grain; particularly on the sides ... and with quite a lot of medullary figuring and beautiful colour which makes the whole appearance really attractive.

  • Front:

European spruce with regular grainline spacing and good medullary. The colour is perfectly matched with the back and sides.

  • Tuners:

Traditional rosewood peg-head, with the well-renowned head-crest carving and with the Gerundino stamp on the back. The carving on the top front of the head is a little off-centre as so many were as his eye-sight appeared to have deteriorated in the later part of his making career.

  • Scale:

    662mm

  • Neck Width:

54mm at the nut - as usual.

  • Weight:

    1322 grams

  • Condition:

This flamenco guitar, for its 22 years, is in super condition. The back and sides are very close to as-new, with just a few shallow marks on the edge. There are a few shallow marks on the back of the neck. The front is also lovely and has very little playing wear.

  • Comments:

This is one where anyone should feel lucky to find such a good-sounding Gerundino in really beautiful condition. The sound is typical Gerundino, rasping and aggressive but with plaintive, lyrical treble sound when in the hands of a capable player. Choice of strings of course can make a significant difference too. For those seeking Gerundino, you'll struggle to find better.
