GERUNDINO Fernandez of Almeria

  • Year:

1980. Label signed and dated. Stamped on the inside back and on the heel slipper.

  • Body:

Spanish cypress with good, straight grain on both back and sides. Very pleasing in appearance.

  • Front:

European spruce with regular, quite close grain.

  • Tuners:

Traditional rosewood peg-head, with the well-renowned head-crest carving and with the Gerundino stamp on the back.

  • Scale:

    665mm

  • Neck Width:

    54mm

  • Condition:

The condition is very good, with no cracks, repairs or repolishing and only minor playing marks. There is a tool-slip flaw in the top by the side of the fingerboard - from when new. For its nearly 30 years of age, this is a performance-quality Gerundino in well-cared-for condition.

  • Comments:

An excellent example from a player who bought it directly from the maker and used it for years regularly in professional dance accompaniment before stopping that due to life's other pressures. From the mid-70's and early 80's, a period that so many people consider to be when many of the finest Gerundino's were produced, it has a rasping, penetrating, very flamenco sound character and very low, easy action.
