mid 2008 - number 183
Rosewood - dark, straight-grained with lovely, subtle colours. All shellac french-polished.
Total weight 1756 grams
European spruce with an extraordinary amount of medullary figuring all over the front. Exquisite rosette with very fine details and dense colours - and very fine purfling lines; all characteristic of the highest standards of French lutherie. Note - the apparent colour contrats of the two halves is much exaggerated by the photo.
Rodgers with engraved, brass sideplates and ebony buttons.
52mm at the nut.
In near-new and beautiful condition. There is one mark in the front -an 8.5cm fine line by the rosette; bass side, only in the polish - and only seen in particular light direction. Other than this, just a few really tiny playing marks. As usual, we tend to make things sound worse than the reality!
This is a nearly new guitar from Dominique Field who has an order list of at least 15 years. His recent instruments have been very difficult to find in recent years and are sought-after by players and collectors alike. They are amongst the very strongest, sound-projecting yet traditionally-built concert guitars available anywhere in the world. Their sound is very clean, focussed and pure allowing the accomplished player to find his / her own colours. This is a rare opportunity to have a highly-refined concert guitar from a maker whose reputation for quality of construction is rarely equalled.
