2013 - number 434. 'After Santos Hernandez'.
Spanish cypress with a 3-piece back and rosewood purfling lines. All french-polished to high standard.
Top bout:- 274 mm wide & 89 mm deep.
Waist:- 234 mm
Bottom bout:- 358 mm wide & 93 mm deep.
Close-grained European spruce with rosette, bridge shape and dimensions, purflings and bindings taken from 1925 and 1929 Santos originals. The rosewood bridge is virtually black. All shellac french-polished.
Nicolo Alessi with engraved sideplates and synthetic ivory buttons. These are not replica of the originals but are an available pattern in similar character and styling to the originals.
65cm with 19 frets on an ebony fingerboard
51mm at the nut with 42.5 mm string spacing.
In very good condition - with minor dulling of polish where the back rests against the player's chest and where the forearm rests on edge of the front. There are small playing and handling marks to the rear of the head and from string changing for example; nothing serious or unsightly.
Here is the latest in a limited series of replicas or guitars made very closely by Christopher Dean in the style of 1920's Santos Hernandez classical guitars. It is quite a thrill to look at guitars like this, so faithfully reproducing the appearance and feel of how an original may well have looked straight from Santos Hernandez's bench in the 1920's.
This one is an extraordinarily good guitar to play with a deep bass voice and clear, penetrating treble that has some sweetness at the same time. Not only are the weight and physical balance just like the originals but the sound, unlike a typical Christopher Dean concert guitar, really does respond and sound like an original Santos.
With an air resonance down below E, this has a bass down in your boots with that deep, old-world character. The treble also has that rounded, glassy, penetrating sound that is right out of the early 20th century instruments.
Such an impressive and exciting guitar to play.

"Having known Miles for many years now I can say with some authority that dealing with him is a pleasure, due largely to my secure feeling that he, like me, has a genuine love of his subject. Over the years I have always been eager to hear feedback from both Miles, and his customers, and this has helped me greatly to bolster my own passion for the guitar and to refine my work ."
