Marcelo Barbero hijo - for casa Arcangel Fernandez

  • Year:

1976 - signed by the maker

  • Body:

Indian rosewood - straight-grained wood with single-line purfling to both back and sides.

  • Front:

European spruce - with very attractive, typically Madrid-style rosette and rosewood bridge.

  • Tuners:

Fustero with engraved sideplates and white buttons

  • Scale:

    657 mm

  • Neck Width:

    52.5 mm at the nut

  • Weight:

    1585 grams

  • Condition:

In original condition, this guitar is like new, rediculously good condition. The back, sides, neck, head and fingerboard are literally as new. The front has one small nail mark and a couple of the tiniest, whispy polish marks which will buff out - hence can reasonably be described 'virtually as new'.

  • Comments:

The classical and flamenco guitars of Barbero hijo, the son of Marcelo Barbero, are recognised as fine instruments in their own right. For years after the death of Marcelo Barbero, Marcelino had a lifetime friendship with Arcangel Fernandez for whom he made guitars under the 'casa Arcangel Fernandez' label. Sadly Barbero hijo died prematurely just a few years ago.
With an air resonance around G, this classical guitar has a rich, strong sound with a full bass and middle sound and a clear treble. I suspect this guitar has never been played 'in anger' and is likely to further open up out with more playing.
This guitar was brought into England by Pepe Martinez in 1976 and a signed, hand-written receipt confirming it was his guitar accompanies the sale.
