    Superb old Indian rosewood back

Recently picked up from  Granada is this magnificent spruce 30th Anniversario model. It has superb timbers including very old Indian rosewood of a quality that Paco says is very hard to find more of now. The sound is really profound and with a fine singing treble – yet to be played in of course.  See the Home page listing under the ‘Up to Euros 10,000′ section for full details.

delarue316frontrOur next Dominique Delarue guitar is now available to see and play. This is another fine Indian rosewood & cedar guitar. Many people have enquired but at the moment it is still available. See the Home page listing under the ‘Up to Euros 10,000′ section for full details.

  • Antonio Marin Montero – new cedar

Apr 15 Posted by Miles Roberts in New Arrivals | There are no comments | Have your say

antonio969b29oct08rTo replace a magnificant Indian & cedar classical that went to a very happy chap in Slovenia recently, Antonio Marin has produced another which we have just collected. These cedar guitars have in the last two or three years, been superb with great power and depth, the warmth expected from cedar but also a sparkle and clarity that would normally only be expected from spruce. The sound samples of the previous cedar Marins give a quite accurate portrayal of the sound character. See the Home page listing under the ‘Up to Euros 10,000′ section for full details. Now available – the cedar one is available. (Another spruce one due end January 2010)

  • Antonio Marin flamenco – African satinwood

Apr 15 Posted by Miles Roberts in New Arrivals | There are no comments | Have your say

Now in stock, a simply stunning peg-head flamenco blanca made by Antonio Marin Montero with body made from African satinwood. This has come about because he and his nephew José Marin Plazuelo were so impressed last year with a classical they made with the same satinwood (Avodire). When played in a classical manner, that guitar had a very spontaneous, bright yet classical sound. However when you played it in a flamenco manner, it was so immediate, crisp and aggressive that we realised this wood would make a superb flamenco guitar and have at the same time a more decorative body grain character. I carried four sets of it to Granada and we chose which to use for a flamenco and which to direct to the Antonio Marin flamenco.  See the Home page listing under the ‘Up to Euros 10,000′ section for full details.

Now in stock is the second guitar made by José Marin Plazuelo using African satinwood, also called Avodire. This is a beautiful pale wood, similar in colour density to cypress with both silver and yellow colours within the figured grain. Not only that but it produced a really spontaneous, bright-sounding guitar with also a richness of bass; rather different from anything I have played before – quite intruiging, incredibly enjoyable to play and a real treat to look at. See the ‘Up to Euros 10,000′ section on the Home page for full details.

  • Paco Santiago Marin 30th Anniversario – cedar

Apr 15 Posted by Miles Roberts in New Arrivals | There are no comments | Have your say

We have just bought a late 2007 xxxth Anniversario model of Paco Santiago Marin with cedar front. This is a real cannon of a guitar yet equally capable of subtle, luscious sounds. It had some very minor marks on it which we have had removed and now it is as new. Paco’s xxxth anniversario models are now Euros 8000-8500 + vat direct from the maker after a waiting time. The one we now have is a super example.  See the Home page listing under the ‘Up to Euros 10,000′ section for full details.

Just collected from Fritz Ober in Munich, a superb new Hauser-style guitar with very low body resonance; down to near E – the lowest he has produced so far without a tornovoz. This instrument is very deep in sound yet the maker has maintained a very strong, in-balance treble. When playing this guitar, it is a real reminder of what many guitars of the 1930’s, 40’s & 50’s sounded like – rich, sweet and very lyrical. It is interesting to note how well the deep sounds of a guitar like this carry in a large space. Quite a remarkable instrument that already has shocked one or two professional players.  Now sold 22/4/09. Please enquire for the next available.  See the Home page listing under the ‘Up to Euros 10,000′ section for full details.
